The Moapa Valley Revitalization Project was formed in 2013 to bring about the revitalization and sustainability of Moapa Valley through worthwhile projects. Founding members were Founding Board Members: Mary Kaye Washburn, President; Kathi Cooper, Vice President; Jocelyn Witsken, Secretary; Marjorie Holland, Treasurer; Shelly Benkman, Public Relations; Other Founding Members: Audree Lytle; Pat Christensen. Below are some of the projects and accomplishments the MVRP has been involved in.

The MVRP picked two buildings in downtown Overton, NV to spruce up. Volunteers brought their yard tools and went to work pulling weeds and cleaning up the properties. This was a great way to introduce ourselves and goals to the community while creating some much needed curb appeal.

UPDATE: All Cleaned up!!! What a wonderful turn out for the Weed Pull! We live in such a fantastic community! Special thanks to all the volunteers and donations! Construction bags from True Value, bottled water and ice and trash hauling from Pat & Morris Christensen, and Lins for taking our full trash bags, Fruit, tools and tables from Wild Horse Gallery, LLC, doughnuts from Jocelyn Witsken, plants from Kathi Cooper. Even local artist Joyce Jones stopped by to help out during her morning walk! Thanks again to everyone for their time and their support to make our main street sparkle!

4th of July is a great day for businesses to decorate and show community pride. This yearly event has been fun for both the businesses and the community. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are awarded a plaque with their name on it which they get to keep. The first place winner also gets their businesses name on a traveling plaque which they are able to hang in their business all year. The plaque then moves to the next winner each year.

The Traveling 4th of July Spirit Award is now at its first home, The Front Porch Flowers and Gifts

They won their own personal 1st Place award from the MVRP for their fabulous 4th of July decorations which they have proudly displayed on their counter! How lucky are we to have such wonderful businesses in our community that show their community pride on a daily basis! Let’s show our thanks by shopping local!

Make a Difference Day was the MVRP’s first BIG project. We picked a local business who constantly gives to the community, Sugar’s Home Plate restaurant.

ACE, in Overton, donated heavy equipment and paint while volunteers painted the awning of the building. Local artist Joan Rainey Day, who has done many murals in the Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley, donated her time talent and supplies, and painted a mural on the front of the building. This mural has gotten tourist stopping to click pictures and go in for a hearty meal!

The Valley of Fire Stage Race was a weekend bike race event in the Moapa Valley. The MVRP Sponsored and Organized an EXPO with vendors, entertainment and food for both the community, participants, their support staff, and spectators.
