Open House Overton Fire Station #74
Cark County Volunteer Fire Station 74 in Overton, Nev., is hosting a community open house on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fire Station is located at 310 Moapa Valley Blvd. near Jones Street.
The open house will feature tours of the fire station, fire engines and a Mercy Air unit. There also will be “jaws of life” vehicle demonstrations to show equipment used to rescue accident victims from car crashes, free popcorn and a visit by Smokey the Bear. Children and families also will be able to tour a Fire Safety House operated by Clark County’s Building & Fire Prevention Department.
“Fire Station 74 and other volunteer fire stations throughout the County play a significant role in protecting the health and safety of our rural communities,” said Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, whose Commission District B includes Overton and the Moapa Valley area. “The open house will be fun and educational for the whole family, and we hope residents will come out and enjoy the event.”
The open house also will feature information about general safety information to prevent injuries and fires.
“With cooler weather coming, this is a good time of year to remind residents that space heaters, fireplaces, candles and similar items can be fire hazards if not used safely,” said Clark County Fire Chief Greg Cassell. “We also like to remind people that batteries in their smoke detectors need to be changed twice a year, and the units themselves should be replaced every 10 years.”
Accommodations For Persons With Disabilities: Fire Department open houses are accessible. Citizens requiring an accommodation should notify the Department of specific needs at least five days prior to the date of the events by contacting Marylou Skaggs, Station 74 secretary, (702) 279-1832, mlskaggs74@gmail.com.
